Tweezers in carry-on luggage – are they allowed?

The short and most important answer is: yes. Standard, classic cosmetic tweezers are fully allowed in carry-on luggage. You do not need to worry – both international regulations and individual airlines give them the green light.

Renomed cosmetic tweezers can be packed in your carry-on luggage without any issues – regardless of the airline or your travel destination.

Tweezers in Ryanair carry-on luggage – what do the rules say?

If you are flying with Ryanair, you probably know how strict the airline can be when it comes to the size of cabin bags. Fortunately, the rules regarding the contents of carry-on luggage are not quite as restrictive.

Tweezers in Ryanair carry-on luggage are fully accepted.

  • The airline’s official regulations prohibit carrying items with a sharp edge or pointed tip that could be used as a dangerous tool, such as knives, razors or large scissors with blades longer than 6 cm.
  • Standard tweezers are not classified as a threat. You can safely put them in your small carry-on backpack. Just remember that in Ryanair, the maximum permitted dimensions are 40 x 20 x 25 cm.

Tweezers in Wizz Air carry-on luggage – is there anything to worry about?

The same rules apply when travelling with the Hungarian airline.. Tweezers in Wizz Air carry-on luggage should not cause any problems during security screening or when passing through airport gates.

Since Wizz Air bases its regulations directly on general EU aviation security rules, eyebrow tweezers should not raise any concerns among staff, and you can safely take them on board the aircraft.

Tweezers in carry-on luggage outside the EU – what do official regulations say?

The rules concerning the transport of potentially sharp items in the aircraft cabin are governed by EU regulations and international guidelines, such as those issued by the American TSA. The key criteria for security staff are usually the construction of the tool and the blade length, which must not exceed 6 cm.

Tweezers fall into a safe category for several reasons:

  • No cutting edge: They are designed for gripping, not cutting, which means they do not pose the same level of risk.
  • Small size: Renomed cosmetic tweezers are 9.5 cm long in total, while their working tip measures only a few millimetres.

In official lists of permitted items published by the Polish Civil Aviation Authority, tweezers are explicitly listed as harmless items that passengers may carry with them on board the aircraft.

Exceptions to the rule – when could tweezers be confiscated?

Although standard eyebrow tweezers should pass through security without any problems, it is worth mentioning a few specific exceptions that may draw the attention of security staff:

  1. Medical or laboratory tweezers: Models with very long, needle-like and sharply pointed tips may be considered dangerous by a security officer.
  2. Oversized tweezers: Very long aquarium, terrarium or technical tweezers, over 15–20 cm in length, should be placed in checked baggage due to their size and weight.

What about fishing tweezers in carry-on luggage?

Here, we recommend caution, as specialist hobby accessories often fall into a grey area of aviation regulations. Our fishing tweezers do not have locking mechanisms, which are strictly prohibited on board aircraft, so in theory they are safe to carry in hand luggage. However, if you do not want to risk losing your favourite fishing accessory, it is safer to place it in checked baggage.

The final decision always depends on the assessment of the airport security officer.

How to pack tweezers to avoid problems?

To pass through security smoothly and without unnecessary questions, pack your tweezers in a thoughtful way:

  • Place them in your cosmetic bag: Put the tweezers next to your make-up products. On the X-ray scanner screen, this kind of set looks natural and immediately suggests that these are ordinary, harmless cosmetic accessories.
  • Protect the tip: It is worth putting a silicone protective cap on the arms of the tweezers. Not only does this make them look completely harmless during security screening, but it also protects the inside of your cosmetic bag from accidental scratches or punctures during travel.

Important baggage screening rule: Remember that the final security check is always carried out by airport security staff at a given airport, not by the airline. The decision belongs to the person checking your baggage. If, for any reason, they consider an item to be a potential threat, they have the right to require its removal.
